We are students, teachers, and longtime lovers of Argentine tango. Our goal is to share tango in a way that feels welcoming, grounded, and alive, while helping grow the local community with strong fundamentals, thoughtful instruction, and a deeper appreciation for the dance, music, and connection that make tango so meaningful.

Tuesday 7:00 p.m. – Tango Fundamentals
This beginner-friendly, mixed-level class focuses on the essential vocabulary and mechanics of Argentine tango. We work on walking, connection, embrace, pivots, ochos, turns, musicality, and the structure behind social dancing.
This class is a good fit for newer dancers, returning students, and experienced dancers who want to refine the basics.
Tuesday 8:00 p.m. – Tango Explorations
This class builds from the fundamentals into more complex tango material. Topics may include giros, sacadas, boleos, ganchos, barridas, close-embrace technique, musical phrasing, and more advanced combinations.
Students should be comfortable with basic tango vocabulary and ready to work at a slightly faster pace.
Tuesday 9:00 p.m. – Práctica
The práctica is guided open practice time. Students can work on material from class, ask questions, troubleshoot movement, and dance with different partners in a relaxed setting.

Friday 7:00 p.m. – Milonga Fundamentals
This beginner-friendly, mixed-level class focuses on milonga, one of tango’s faster and more rhythmic forms. We work on rhythm, walking, traspie, musicality, compact movement, and the playful quality of milonga social dancing.
This class is open to newer dancers while still offering useful refinement for experienced students.
Friday 8:00 p.m. – Advanced Tango
This advanced class moves faster and assumes students already know basic tango vocabulary, including ochos, giros, sacadas, ganchos, boleos, and barridas.
We’ll spend less time breaking down each movement from scratch and more time working on higher-level combinations, transitions, musicality, and close-embrace technique.
Friday 9:00 p.m. – Práctica
The Friday práctica gives students time to work through material from both classes, ask questions, and continue dancing in a focused but informal environment.

First and Third Saturdays
Join us on the first and third Saturdays at The Firehouse 5 for a donation-based milonga hosted by Thriving Arts, a nonprofit organization supporting movement arts, community-building, and accessible dance events.
This is a relaxed, welcoming social dance where people can come together to dance, connect, and enjoy tango in a warm community setting. Music may include traditional tango, vals, milonga, tango nuevo, and alternative tango depending on the evening and DJ.
We usually provide light food and drinks. Guests are also welcome to bring something to share.
Because this event is hosted by a nonprofit, donations help support the space, the artists, and the continued growth of accessible tango programming in Sacramento.

Sunday 11:00 a.m. – Solo Tango Technique
This solo technique class focuses on the body mechanics behind tango. We work on posture, balance, grounding, pivots, rotation, axis, foot articulation, and clean movement.
For May, technique class will support our soltada theme, with special attention to pivots, single-axis turns, balance, and grounded rotation.
This class is useful for all levels and does not require a partner.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. – Choreography Group
Choreography class is officially back.
This round of choreography will be to a milonga song. The song is shorter than the last choreography, so the material should be more manageable overall.
For May, choreography class will be drop-in friendly. Students can come try the material, meet other dancers, and start finding a partner.
Beginning in June, students will need to come with a partner, though the class will still be open to people who are unsure about performing.
Our current goal is to perform the choreography at the August 15 Firehouse 5 Milonga.
Tango Schema classes are currently being held at The Firehouse 5 - 2014 9th street in Sacramento, unless otherwise noted.
